Welcome back to the Front Range Plastic and Surgery blog. In a recent blog post, we discussed several reasons to have breast augmentation surgery. We listed only of few of the many positive effects the procedure would motivate prospective patients to seek consult on a breast augmentation procedure with Dr. Schutte, a Board Certified plastic surgeon through the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of General Surgery. Today, we will review the type of breast implants you can choose from for the procedure.
The two types of breast implant that we use to increase full-ness of the breast and ensure uniformity in shape are saline and silicone implants.
- Saline implants contain sterile salt water. They are FDA-approved breast augmentation surgery implants for women who are 18 or older.
- Silicone breast implants contain silicone gel, so they feel more like natural breast tissue than their saline counterparts. Silicone implants are generally preferred as they are more natural and have a much lower rate of rupture. Silicone implants are FDA-approved for women 22 years and older.
Additionally, there are two profile types for breast implants. The two profile types are High Profile and Moderate Plus. High Profile has a higher projection with a narrow base width, while Moderate Plus Profile has a higher projection with a moderate base width. Dr. Schutte will choose the right type of implant works best for your body type based on your breast measurements.
